Festival Mandate To cultivate the growth
of the arts in the community by
providing each participant with the opportunity to perform in a
friendly
atmosphere, to strive for excellence, to learn from others and to
enhance
their musical studies.
The Rotary Burlington Music Festival was founded
in 1999 by the late Robert
Elstone and Sandra Brewer. Bob and Sandy realized a mutual dream
of
bringing classical music to the attention of the community. Bob,
a
past-president of the Rotary Club of Burlington Central and Sandy,
a member
of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) were able
to bring
the four Rotary Clubs of Burlington and the Hamilton/Halton branch
of ORMTA
together in this joint venture. Bob and Sandy served as president
and
vice-president respectively for the first two years. The current
president
of RBMF is Fred Sweeney, a member of the Rotary Club of Burlington
North.
Senator Betty Kennedy is a patron of the festival.
The festival provides an opportunity for amateur
musicians through
competition, to achieve excellence in their art, and assists the
participants in developing character, discipline, logical thinking
and
perception through music.
